Prosecco: Conegliano Valdobbiadene.
Conegliano Valdobbiadene – Prosecco, also called Conegliano – Prosecco or Valdobbiadene – Prosecco, is a wine with a denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin (DOCG) produced only in the hills of the upper province of Treviso between 150 and 350 m asl, in particular in the hilly area between Vittorio Veneto and Valdobbiadene. The DOCG terroir includes 15 municipalities: Conegliano, Susegana, San Fior, San Vendemiano, Colle Umberto, Vittorio Veneto, Tarzo, Cison di Valmarino, Follina, Miane, San Pietro di Feletto, Refrontolo, Pieve di Soligo, Farra di Soligo, Vidor and Valdobbiadene.
Prosecco DOCG.
Conegliano Valdobbiadene – Prosecco DOCG can be produced in the still or sparkling version, while only in the sparkling version it adds the superior mention. The sparkling cru of the appellation, or the micro-zone that encloses the particles in Cartizze, takes the name of Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze. As for the other DOCG (Asolo Prosecco), Conegliano Valdobbiadene – Prosecco DOCG should not be confused with the generic Prosecco DOC nor with other IGT wines based on glera grapes. Since 2019 the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Prosecco doc or Prosecco docg: the difference.
Let’s start with order. First of all there are Prosecco DOC and Prosecco DOCG. The difference between the two different types of wine is mainly linked to a geographical factor: the DOC is produced throughout Friuli Venezia Giulia and in 5 provinces of Veneto, which are Venice, Padua, Belluno, Treviso and Vicenza; while the DOCG, also called Prosecco Superiore, has a limited range on the Treviso hills with only two denominations, “Conegliano Valdobbiadene” and “Colli Asolani”.
Prosecco Brut, Dry, Extra Dry: the difference.
The difference between Brut, Dry and Extra Dry, on the other hand, is linked to the duration of the refermentation, which gives it the sugar quantity and therefore its amiability. This data is very important, because it suggests how and when to consume that type of Prosecco and on what occasion. In Prosecco Brut the refermentation stops when the amount of remaining sugar is very low, about 12 grams per liter: the less sweet version, therefore, of Prosecco, but definitely more masculine, with a pale straw color, with an elegant floral bouquet and with a harmonious, slightly fruity, acidic and dry taste.
More to Know.
A wine of this type is ideal for a meal, in fact it is excellent if served in combination with first courses with a delicate flavor, young and not excessively tasty cheeses, but also with white meats or risottos. Prosecco Extra Dry, on the other hand, has a misleading name, because it has a sugar residue ranging from 12 to 17 grams per liter. It is the softer version than a Brut. Extra Dry has a fine and persistent perlage, a pale straw color, its taste is harmonious, savory and slightly acidic.
Discover our selection of Extra Dry.
Prosecco Dry is the sweetest and most lovable one, with a sugar residue ranging from 17 to 35 grams per liter. It’s still not sweet enough to go with all kinds of desserts, but it can easily go with dry pastries. In this type of wine the color reaches a brilliant straw yellow, with a fine and persistent perlage and an elegantly fruity bouquet. Excellent with fruit, but also with mussels and seafood.
Differences.
The difference between the various Prosecco is always very subtle, but we must nevertheless note that the real keys that establish the quality and flavor of the various wines are always the passion of those who produce them, the land that grew the grapes and the air. that the plant breathed.
